The Bible, and Voltaire and the Bible

March 1, 2010
The famous French philosopher, who died in 1778, perhaps the greatest French writer, Voltaire, critical of Christianity, wrote that in the space of one hundred years (with the development of science) there would be no Bible in the land, but the shelves, showcases and samples museums to be investigated (sought) by some curious antiquities, from the story.

But it happened that those who made history was Voltaire, since the circulation of the Bible continues to increase in almost all parts of the world, bringing blessings wherever you go.

Someone has aptly expressed "It is easier to employ our efforts to stop the path of the sun, than trying to stop the circulation of the Bible."

Regarding the presumption of Voltaire, just fifty years after his death, the Geneva Bible Society purchased the house where Voltaire wrote the insidious statement, transforming your house into a huge warehouse for distribution and printing of Bibles! Later that same house became the headquarters of the Paris branch of British and International Bible Society, which distributes Bibles in all of Europe! What an irony of history!

Voltaire did not know the Bible, because she says: "Heaven and earth will pass away but My words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35).

Two hundred and six years after Voltaire, the U.S. president was to declare the year 1983 "The Year of the Bible".

What would have taken the president's most powerful nation on earth to proclaim the Bible as the main source of human knowledge?

It was also curious attitude of Voltaire who never wanted to lease their lands, but the Christian tenants, because as stated - the farmers Christians were honest in their accounts. No comment!!

Millions of people still looking for a reliable source of authority. They discovered that they can not rely on treaties between nations, nor the statements of scientists, even the great religious leaders are often wrong. The Bible - the Word of God - is the only ultimate authority we have. Proven over centuries, the Bible sheds light on human nature, about mankind's problems and suffering that afflicts humans. Moreover, it clearly shows the path to God. The Bible is God revealing himself to mankind.

Billy Graham is right to say, for the Bible: "The Bible is an ancient book and yet is always new. It is the latest book in the world. There is generally a misconception that a book so old how the Bible can not speak to the needs of modern man. For some reason men think that in an era of scientific achievements, in which the knowledge gained in 25 years is higher than that achieved over all the centuries of human history , this book is so old and outdated to be exceeded.

However, for all who read and love, the Bible is extremely relevant to our generation.

It is in the Scriptures we find the answers to life's fundamental questions: Where did I come? Why am I here? Where am I going? What is the purpose of my existence? "

The Bible is the written revelation which God has left us, of His will for man and the universe - in particular about the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

MORE THAN A BOOK

The Bible contains 66 books written by some 40 authors over a period of composition that covers, roughly 1,600 years. Its authors are the most varied cultural and social levels and these have included kings, peasants, prophets, poets, fishermen, men of state, scholars, a businessman, a doctor and a missionary.

The central message of the Bible is the cross of Jesus Christ. Each book of the Bible and points to the future, indicating the coming of Jesus, or point in retrospect to his redemptive work on Calvary.

"Thus saith the Lord: Will not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty boast in his might, not the rich man boast of his riches, but to boast, boast is this: that he understands and Me know that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for these things I delight, saith the Lord. "(The Bible, Jeremiah 9:23,24)
